Fire Signs

Fire signs are one of the most crucial requirements in a building, especially one that is used by the public. In case of emergencies such as fire, these fire signs and emergency signs go a long way in guiding people safely out of the building.

In most cases, it is legally binding on the owners of the buildings to ensure that fire signs are displayed as per statute in all the prominent areas of the building as a contingency measure. Fire signs have been standardized based on government regulations in almost all countries internationally.

Benefits of Fire Signs

This is in order to avoid misinterpretation of the most important signage and to employ them beyond the barriers of language. Mostly, the fire sings, hazard signs, emergency signs and first aid signs are made of photo luminescent material so that they glow even in the dark.Another requirement is that these safety signs need to be placed in most prominent places of a building.

During an emergency such as fire, it is usual for people to panic. In such situations, the fire signs need to have clarity, should be legible, should not compete with other signs placed in the vicinity and most importantly should not confuse and mislead people who are already in panic. Apart from the pictorial fire signs, text signs such as ‘fire exit – keep free from obstruction at all times’, ‘do not use elevators in case of fire’ etc., are also placed at appropriate places in a building.

A well planned building which attracts a good flow of public should necessarily list many emergency signs such as hazardous sign, first aid sign, wet floor sign, etc. Of these signs, the fire signs are most important and are of many types. Under fire signs, one may find fire extinguisher signs, fire exit sign, highly inflammable, electric voltage, etc.

Fire Signs Warnings

Even the colors are standardized in the usage of fire signs.  Usually red color signifies immediate danger and signs made of orange color indicate a potential danger that can possibly cause minor injury. All fire signs made of green color are meant for information and is popularly used for identifying equipment such as first aid kits, safety kits etc. Fire exit signs are generally green in color and are meant to guide people in case of an emergency situation. Red warning fire signs are meant for people to identify the locations of firefighting equipment and fire alarms.
